wining & dining in North Portugal
Wining
North Portugal is famous for its wine, the so called vinho verde. With the verde = green, not referring to the wine color (red, white, rosé) but to the state of the grape at picking. Green, not fully ripe. It gives a sparkly wine, much appreciated on a warm day.
There is a ‘vinho verde’ route starting nearby, leading you past several wine farms, quintas. Some of which offer interesting wine tasting experiences. And of course, there’s a trip to the Douro Wine Valley. Last but not least: port wine tasting in Porto.
Dining
North Portugal’s traditional kitchen is the one originally feeding the farmers, coming back from a hard day’s work on the land. Like life itself, the meals are rough, unsophisticated, but pure, healthy and oh so good! We’ve tested quite some ‘restaurants’ in the area and can tell you where to find that oldskoolPortuguese food.
Almost forgot to tell you: in July & August, the best cooking around (apparently, according to our guests) can be found right here with us. Along with some quality wine.
